Supporting Modern Living at Chalkers Rise
The scenic coastal town of Peacehaven lies just a few miles east of vibrant Brighton, and is home to Chalkers Rise, a Barratt Homes Southern Counties development. Boasting beautiful beachside walks and views of the chalk cliffs, Peacehaven is an idyllic location for people of all ages.
Chalkers Rise offers a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom family homes nestled on the edge of the South Downs County Park. These homes will benefit from our i-Roof room-in-roof solution, which Barratt Homes selected for 137 plots,
allowing them to add additional valuable living space in the roof while significantly speeding up build time.
Everything goes to plan
Our designers Kacper Stangierski and Bartosz Rodny worked on the project, taking the original house type designs provided by Barratt Homes’ technical team and amending them to ensure they could work with i-Roof.
Moving back and forth between our design team and Barratt Homes’ technical team, the drawings were quickly approved and the design moved from office to factory to begin manufacture.
i-Roof is manufactured in our specialist factory in Alcester, before being transported to site in panelised form to be installed. By manufacturing all elements of i-Roof in our factory, high quality is guaranteed. As a housebuilder, Barratt Homes rely on quality elements to ensure buyers are receiving the very best.
As i-Roof is made in-factory, we carry out stringent quality control measures at each step of the manufacturing process. This ensures that any imperfections, such as cold spots where heat could escape through, are rectified before i-Roof arrives to site, saving housebuilders time and money.
Moving from off-site to on-site
Once the factory build is complete, the panels of i-Roof are wrapped in our signature red covering and loaded onto a lorry to be transported to site. When i-Roof arrives on site, it is offloaded and installed using a crane, which is when Barratt Homes would’ve felt the real advantages of off-site construction.
By installing using a crane, the risks to both our team and the Barratt Homes site team were greatly decreased. Less time is spent working at height when installing i-Roof, reducing the opportunity for falls, while also speeding up the build time as its panelised sections fit together easily.
Valuable space
As some report that homes have been getting smaller since the 1950s[1], homeowners are losing out on valuable space, and for housebuilders, building outwards isn’t always an option.
Now more than ever, homeowners require more space to facilitate their growing families, so by opting for i-Roof, Barratt Homes have built upwards instead, adding this additional living space in the roof of the home.
Testimonials
Bartosz Rodny, Designer, said of working on the project: “We have worked with Barratt Homes a few times and it’s always a pleasure. Chalkers Rise was a relatively straightforward project, working with Barratt’s existing house types to ensure i-Roof integrated seamlessly. It’s great to see large housebuilders taking off-site manufacturing more seriously as it can bring so many benefits, so we hope to work with Barratt Homes again soon.”
David Rowland, Technical Director at BDW Southern Counties, said: “This is one of a number of projects we have completed with Roofspace Solutions and they are always great to work with. Their team, from the offices to the site, are always friendly, helpful and professional, and their i-Roof solution saves us so much time on site. We look forward to working with Roofspace Solutions again in the future.”
